What changes the price
1. The size of the car
A large SUV or a 7-seater has a lot more paint to prepare, correct and coat than a hatchback. More surface means more hours.
2. The condition of the paint
This is the big one. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so swirl marks, light scratches and water spots have to be polished out first. Paint that's been through years of automatic car washes needs more correction than paint that's been hand washed.
3. How long you want it to last
Longer-life coatings are harder and need more careful application. That's the main difference between our 3, 5 and 8-year tiers, along with how much correction is included.
4. What gets coated
Guard protects the paint. Shield adds the wheels and glass. Apex covers paint, wheels, glass and trim, and adds an interior coating.
Why most of the cost is preparation
Applying a coating takes a fraction of the time. The work that makes it last happens first:
- Decontaminate: a wash, clay decontamination and a mineral cleanse strip every bonded contaminant from the surface.
- Correct: the paint is machine polished, so the coating locks in a flawless finish, not the flaws.
- Prep and panel wipe: all oils are removed so the coating bonds directly to bare clear coat.
- Coat and cure: the coating is applied, levelled and cured panel by panel.
A cheap coating usually means some of these steps were skipped. We use Gtechniq, Gyeon and DIY Detail coatings, plus DIY Detail prep and care products, and every coating is inspected before we leave.
Is ceramic coating worth it?
Compared with wax, a coating costs more up front but works out very differently over time. Wax sits on top of the paint and washes away in weeks. A ceramic coating chemically bonds to the clear coat and lasts years.
- Easier washing: water beads and sheets off, taking dirt with it.
- UV protection: it slows fading and oxidation under the Perth sun.
- Chemical resistance: bird droppings, tree sap and road grime are far less likely to etch or stain the paint.
- Deeper gloss: the colour looks richer and clearer.
To be straight about it: a coating greatly reduces the fine swirls that come from washing, but it isn't a force field, and it won't stop stone chips.

Which tier is right for you?
Guard suits a car in good condition where you want real protection and easier cleaning. Shield suits most cars: deeper correction, a longer-lasting coating, and wheels and glass done too. Apex is for owners who want the longest-life finish we offer, inside and out.
Buying a new car? That's the ideal time to coat it. We still decontaminate and lightly correct first, because even new cars pick up swirls in transport and dealer prep.
Looking after a coated car
Hand wash every 2–4 weeks with a pH-neutral, coating-safe shampoo using the two-bucket method, and dry with a clean microfibre towel. Avoid automatic car washes, dish soap and wax-infused soaps. We include a maintenance kit and instructions with every coating, and offer top-up services to extend its life.
Where we coat
Aurex is mobile. We're based in Mosman Park and work across the Perth metro area, at your home or workplace. A coating needs a clean, sheltered space to cure, such as a garage or carport, so we'll confirm what's needed at your place when you book.
